The draft horse sale at the Waverly Sale Barn is a great slice of Iowa culture. But it's also a great excuse to try a meal at the lunch counter, where you'll find some of the best chow you've ever sunk your teeth into. Our favorite is the homemade chicken and noodles served over real mashed potatoes. But any of the sandwiches off the grill is a good bet as well. And a general rule of thumb at nearly any of the handful of sale barns still in existance is that the homemade pie under the glass case on the counter will be excellent. The sale barn is easy to find at 2212 5th Ave NW. Call 319-352-2804. Read our story here.
