Our Pursuit of the Trival
Jean and Inez Bregant, a 47-inch-tall man and his 45-inch-tall wife, worked in sideshows before settling in Council Bluffs in 1905. Their tiny house still stands. More Iowa Facts.
Sherrie Hansen Decker, the owner of the Blue Belle Inn in St. Ansgar, lived in Germany for three years and has traveled extensively in Europe, so many of our meals have European themes, like this delicious pasta recipe.
Pasta Carbonnara
Sauté:
7 slices bacon, fried crisp
3 green onions, sliced
1/2 c. sliced mushrooms
1/2 c. frozen peas
1/4 tsp. garlic
Sauce:
2 TBS. margarine
2 TBS flour
1 1/2 c. half and half
1/2 c. Parmesan cheese
Fry bacon until crisp. Remove from pan. Sauté mushrooms, garlic & onions in a little of the bacon fat. Stir in peas. Set aside. To make sauce, melt margarine and whisk in flour until smooth. Add half & half. Stir until
thick. Stir in Parmesan cheese and whisk until smooth. Add vegetables and heat until warm over low heat, stirring often. Toss with linguini or
fettuccini. Garnish with fresh, shredded, Parmesan cheese.
